Washington, NC - February 8, 2010: Ashley Woolard, who announced his candidacy for US House on October 8, 2009 will formally file for Congress from the 1st Congressional District at the Beaufort County Board of Elections on Wednesday February 10, 2010 at 2:00 pm. He will be accompanied by family, friends, and campaign volunteers. Woolard and his wife Jessica live in Washington with their two children, Payton 6, and Parker 3. "Unless we change the course of our government, the country we leave to our children and grandchildren will be a far cry from the one we grew up in, with far less opportunity to grow and prosper. Actual unemployment in Northeastern North Carolina is as high as 17% to 22%. Our people are hurting and our government wants to solve the problem by raising your taxes and hiring more government workers. Many of our friends and neighbors that want to work and be productive members of society can't because there are no jobs to be had."

Woolard believes the people of this country and the private sector make the country prosper, not increasing government control of its citizenry's daily lives and businesses. "Limited government has made the United States the greatest nation in the history of mankind. Unfortunately today we see to many in the political class have forgot those ideals and ignore our constitution. I believe strongly in our great country and the ideals that made it great and will be a fierce advocate for these principles in the United States Congress."

Woolard is lifelong resident of Beaufort County as are his parents and grandparents before him. He graduated from Washington High School and earned a BS from East Carolina. Upon graduation, He joined the family business, then Woolard Insurance Group, where he serves as vice-president.

Woolard, an active community leader, has served as president of several civic organizations including the Washington Rotary Club, Beaufort County Pirate Club, Old Ford Ruritan Club and as Chairman of the Beaufort County Republican Party.
