Obituary: Ruth Vaughn Pugh | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Ruth Vaughn Pugh, age 77, a resident of Mallard Drive, Washington, N.C., passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at University Health Systems-Beaufort Hospital. A celebration of her life will be Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Dr. Jimmy Moore. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Dr. Robert Sandy, Howard Smith, Dr. Henry Stephenson, Bill Page, Abbott Morris Jr. and Jack Pyburn will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 U.S. Highway 264 East, Washington, N.C., and at other times at the home.

    Mrs. Pugh was born on Dec. 27, 1933, in Gaffney, S.C., daughter of the late Roy Vaughn and Martha McRoy Vaughn. She was married to Dr. Raeford Pugh on Dec. 27, 1956, who survives. Mrs. Pugh graduated from Union High School and Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Washington. The family is grateful to the many friends and loved ones who brought her happiness in tennis, golf, bridge, snow skiing and other adventures.

    Along with her husband, survivors include one son, Dr. Raeford T. Pugh Jr. and wife, Susan, of Clemmons, N.C.; her two daughters, Laura P. Bliley and husband, Trip, of Washington, N.C., and Jill A. Davies and husband, Glenn, of Colmar, Pa.; three sisters, Norma Henderson of Union, S.C., Jane Jones of Conyers, Ga., and Annette Jones of Newberry, S.C.; one brother, Joe Vaughn of Spartanburg, S.C.; and six grandchildren, Alyssa Pugh, Ann Marie Pugh, Aileen Davies, Michelle Davies, Meredith Price and Katie Price.
