Mrs. Frances W. Porter, 69, of Carolina Shores, N.C., died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

    Mrs. Frances W. Porter, 69, of Carolina Shores, N.C., died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

     Born in Baltimore, Md., on July 11, 1942, she was a daughter of the late George and Pearl Edwards Shade. Mrs. Porter’s roots and childhood to adult years were spent in Washington, N.C. She was a retired N.C. Realtor and was owner/operator of Starheel Properties, LLC, from 2002 until 2009. She had a love of painting, black & white movies and enjoyed the company of her many friends.

    She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby J. Whitehurst, and her second husband of 29 years, James W. Porter.

    Survivors include, her two daughters, Rhonda Langley of Carolina Shores, N.C., Sandra Terry and husband Bruce of Chillicothe, Ohio; son, Jerry Whitehurst and wife Melissa of Greensboro, N.C.; three stepchildren, Chris Porter of Phoenix, Ariz., Kathy Tollifson of Fort Mill, S.C., Jennifer Mason of Oxford, Ohio; a twin sister, Ann Secor of Newnan, Ga., and two younger sisters, Nora Marie Messick and Lana McCoy, both of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

    The family received friends Monday at Brunswick Funeral Service & Crematory, Shallotte, N.C.

    Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at the Anchor Baptist Church, Little River, S.C., officiated by pastor Carl Wood. Interment followed in Brunswick Memorial Gardens, Shallotte, N.C.

    Memorials may be directed to your local Salvation Army Unit.
