    These limericks can be read or sung to the traditional song "Over the River."

  • Over the river, and through the woods,
  • We go to escape the fray;
  • Of political disputes and constant rebukes
  • This Thanksgiving holiday.
  • Over the river, and through the woods,
  • Oh, how the talk does blow;
  • It burns the ears and fans the fears
  • Where ever we may to go.
  •
  • Over the river, and through the woods,
  • We've got to get away;
  • From Cooper, McCrory and all their ploys
  • Just give it a rest one day.
  • Over the river, and through the woods,
  • Can we just call time out?
  • It's gotten so deep, it's started to creep
  • Let's stop it right now, we shout.
  •
  • Over the river, and through the woods,
  • It's time for a holiday truce;
  • Enough politics, we're tired of their tricks
  • And fed up with this abuse.
  • Over the river, and though the woods
  • We're ready to shop and play;
  • We're tired of this, we've reached the abyss
  • Let's talk something else, we pray.
  •
  • Over the river, and through the woods
  • Turn on the Christmas lights
  • At least we agree, they bring us more glee
  • Than constant political fights.
  • Over the river, and through the woods,
  • We plead just one more time;
  • Pass the cranberry sauce and turkey across
  • We've completely run out of rhymes.

    May you and yours enjoy a happy Thanksgiving and pray for a peace-filled holiday season.
