Press Release:

RALEIGH, NC     The following statement can be attributed to the North Carolina Republican Party (NCGOP) Chairman Robin Hayes.

  • "We said from day one the actions of Mayor Roberts to pass a divisive and unneeded Charlotte ordinance, was politics at its worst, designed to help Roy Cooper. This is confirmed now that she as Roy Cooper permission to strike a repeal/repeal deal that Copper fought numerous times this year.
  • Cooper was against a deal before he was for it, and democrats were against special sessions before they were for them.
  • That fact that Roy Cooper and Jennifer Roberts - after months of intransigence and behind-the-scenes efforts to kill a compromise - are suddenly willing to overturn their radical bathroom-sharing ordinance proves this was never more than a nakedly partisan political weapon aimed at sabotaging Governor McCrory's re-election bid, while inflicting economic suffering on the people of North Carolina.
  • Cooper campaigned ad nauseam against "divisive social issues" while he and Roberts waged a divisive culture war that flooded the governor's race with millions of out-of-state special-interest dollars, energized a left-wing coalition that was duped into thinking these politicians shared their principles, put the safety and privacy of women and children at risk, and heaped national embarrassment on our state. Make no mistake: these are shameless, opportunistic and brass-knuckled politicians. Principled, they are not."
