    Mrs. Margaret Jean Johnston Switzer, age 83, a resident of Washington and a former resident of Greenville died Thursday January 5, 2017 at River Trace Nursing Center of Washington.

    A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 14, 2017 in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Rev. Gene Williams. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Frederick Switzer, Tawney Ange, Josh Tetterton, Ian Tetterton, Billy Moseley and Greg Tripp.

    The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the home of her son: Rick Switzer located at 400 Northwood Rd., Washington.

    Mrs. Switzer was born in Pitt County on April 29, 1933 daughter of the late Joseph Siciliby Johnston, Sr. and the late Margaret Frances Hatton Johnston. She was a 1951 graduate of Pactolus High School where she was Valedictorian of her class. On July 22, 1951 she married Charles Frederick Switzer, Jr. who preceded her in death on March 6, 2015. Mrs. Switzer was a retired administrative assistant at Proctor & Gamble of Greenville. She was a devoted member of Parkers Chapel Free Will Baptist Church of Greenville.

    Surviving are two children: Charles "Rick" Switzer III and his wife Melinda of Washington and Jo Lynn Wade and her husband Ralph of Morehead City; a brother: Joseph S. Johnston, Jr. and his wife Estelle of Wilmington; two sisters-in-law: Audrey Johnston of Greenville and Blanche Johnston, of Morehead City six grandchildren: Frederick Switzer and his wife Cristen of Washington, Krystle Ange and her husband Tawney of Jamesville, Josh Tetterton and his wife Deanna of Morehead City, Lyndsey Wade of Asheville, Allison Frk and her husband Bret of Asheville and Emily Wade of Durham and seven great grandchildren: Charlie and Callie Switzer, Ian and Finley Tetterton, Wade and Avery Frk and Tucker Ange. Mrs. Switzer was predeceased by two brothers: Thomas and Steve Johnston and three sisters: Hilda Buck, Christine Albritton and Everdeen Tetterton.
