The History: Sloan Insurance Agency
Sloan Insurance Agency, established in 1950 in Washington, NC by founder Lloyd P. Sloan, Jr., is proud and privileged to have long served Beaufort County and the northeastern North Carolina region; moreover, this Sloan family business is very much looking forward to continuing their practice of providing tailored coverage to their clients' every unique property and casualty need.
Lloyd P. Sloan, educated at East Carolina as an accountant, actually hails from Charlotte, North Carolina. After graduating from our local East Carolina, Mr. Sloan made his first business bones by working within the management of the former Talley Brothers' wide array of business here in Washington, NC. After this stimulative stint at Talley Brothers, Lloyd P. Sloan made a bold discovery: Beaufort County was in woeful need of competent, resourceful servicing of local property and casualty needs.
In Lloyd Sloan's initial formative years, he met Marion Hodges from Washington; they married, and set about building a family, but first a business based on the need to provide a more abundant and varied selection of property and casualty products. This business began as a success, which is continued to this day, with Lloyd's sons, Mike and Lewis Sloan guiding the ship that Lloyd and, and to a lesser extent as bookkeeper, Marion so carefully crafted.
So dedicated to the vision of establishing a family business, Lloyd even invited his mother, Myrtle Sloan, from 1955 to 1985, to aid in the founding proposition of one family diligently assisting other families' insurance needs. Sloan Insurance Agency began by representing Iowa Mutual back in 1950; today in 2018, Sloan Insurance represents ( insurance companies ).
Today, as Sloan Insurance Agency sails into its 68th year of existence, Lewis and Mike Sloan are as committed as their legacy demands of them: To service every individual's unique needs to the extent that they are professionally capable by tailoring property and casualty to fit most everyone's basic and very unique needs. As Mike Sloan often assures us:
"Servicing our clients' many needs is our prime focus, continuing today as it has been for the entire 68 years of our existence here in Beaufort County."

Personal Liability Coverage is an umbrella form of insurance to protect against exposures arising out of the residential premises, and activities of individuals and family members. Some form of personal liability insurance is included in Homeowners Insurance package policies.
Liability is defined as the following: a certain or probable future sacrifice of economic benefits arising from present obligations of a particular entity to transfer assets or to provide services to other entities in the future as a result of a past transactions(s) or event(s). Three essential characteristics: a) It embodies a present duty or responsibility to one or more other entities that entails settlement by probable future transfer or use of assets at a specified or determinable date, on occurrence of a specified event, or on demand; b) The duty or responsibility obligates a particular entity, leaving it little or no discretion to avoid the future sacrifice; and c) The transaction or other event obligating the entity has already happened.
A special type of liability coverage, which can act as an addition to a liability policy, is Personal Injury Liability coverage. This coverage option offers liability coverage for cases of discrimination, false arrests, illegal detention, libel/slander/defamation, malicious prosecution, identity theft, mental anguish, or privacy rights violations.

Auto liability coverage, the most basic level of coverage, is required by North Carolina law for all drivers (www.dmv.org); liability insurance
"protects against financial loss because of legal liability for motor vehicle related injuries (bodily injury and medical payments) or damage to the property of others caused by accidents arising out of ownership, maintenance or use of a motor vehicle (including recreational vehicles such as motor homes)." [quoted from NAIC Insurance Consumer Glossary.]
Auto Physical Damage Coverage insures against material damage the car receives in events such as a collision, vandalism, fire, or theft. If the motor vehicle is used primarily in connection with a commercial establishment, commercial coverage is required rather than personal coverage.
Homeowners insurance is a package policy which covers a wide range of property types and insures against a variety of different hazards. Home insurance combines real and personal property coverage with personal liability coverage. Some homeowners insurance polices are specialized on types of dwellings, such as condos, mobile homes, or tenant’s insurances.
