Born: February 6, 1937, Died: July 18, 2018

Retired Chief Petty Officer William Robert "Bobby" Singleton, age 81, was surrounded by his loving family when he was called to meet his Father July 18, 2018.

He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, friend, proud Navy Veteran, and good and faithful servant.

Bobby was an excellent provider for his family and also shared much with others. He gathered his hard-earned pennies to give to organizations such as the Shiner's Hospitals for Children, The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, victims of natural disasters, and his church.

He wasn't just a grandpa to his four grandchildren, he was "Boppie." He showed his love for his family through his actions and his words. Boppie built a life and gathering place for those he loved at his family farm. By planting 500 blueberry bushes, he left a lasting and visible legacy of provision and hard work.

His proudest military moment was achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer at age 24. He was a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Navy where he was awarded the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Bobby was known for working with his hands and could fix anything. He was a wise advisor to his family, sharing his stories and life lessons. He loved all animals, great and small. He enjoyed puzzles, reading, studying his bible, and any time spent with family.

He was a former Mason and past member of the Old Ford Ruritan Club, an active member of The Children of the Assembly of God Church, and an activist supporting the No OLF efforts.

Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette McHorney Singleton, and his parents, William Fred Singleton and Sadie Dot Cherry Singleton.

Bobby is survived by his two daughters Dr. Gayle Singleton-Yatawara of Salisbury, NC and Cheri Singleton Hinshelwood of Suffolk, VA, sons-in-law Chanaka Yatawara and Geoffrey Hinshelwood, four grandchildren Lily and Grace Yatawara, and Abigail and Owen Hinshelwood.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 John Small Avenue Washington, NC 27889. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC. 27834.

Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.paulfuneralhome.com.

Paul Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to serve the Singleton family.
