Candidates' Forum | Eastern North Carolina Now

     On Tuesday night, April 13, 2010, at 7:00 pm, there will be a candidates forum at the Beaufort County Community College Auditorium. It is sponsored by the Washington Daily News.

    I do appreciate the WDN for sponsoring this event. It is truly the best platform from which to reach the public, and give them an unvarnished look at the citizens they will elect to make the decisions that will affect them greatly. I have always felt that politicians should speak directly to the electorate, whether they wish to or not. On Tuesday night they will be compelled to do so.

    I intend to bring my A game. I want to discuss, not so much as to what I have done over the last 13 plus years that I have been a county commissioner, but rather how we can take out country, our state and our county back from those who would rule us through onerous regulations and ever increasing taxes. My history as a Beaufort County Commissioner is fairly well documented, and while I do not run from my record, I do not celebrate it as the one over arching reason why you should vote for me over all the other candidates, who have much less experience in governmental problem solving.

    My vast experience does, however, offer me the perspective to know what is so terribly wrong with the direction of this nation and this state, and as a Beaufort County Commissioner how to avert local disaster from its burdensome effects, and furthermore, when it is possible, do all I can to work through grassroots efforts to stop this oppressive governing insanity. As many of you know, I am not timid in voicing mine and my constituents’ opinions, and moreover, working with the better and wiser natures of my fellow commissioners to effect real change, and especially to stop as much of the “Change you can believe in” that is rolling up to our county’s doorstep from the Socialists now ruling us from Washington, DC., and consequently, their allies in Raleigh, NC.

     My advice to all of you who want to be part of this process of electing, or stopping the election of out spoken politicians like myself is come to the Candidates Forum and participate. I believe it will be truly informative, and you have the right to express yourself in direct dialogue with the candidates before and after the forum, and through relevant questions submitted through moderator, Elections Supervisor Kellie Hopkins, to the candidates.

    Personally, I promise to be candid and I promise not to bite … too terribly hard.
