    Richard "Peyton" Holloman, Jr., age 97, of Raleigh and former resident of Washington, NC, died Monday, November 26th while in Transitions Hospice Care.

    A memorial service will be held Friday, November 30th at 2:00pm at Paul Funeral Home Chapel in Washington officiated by Dr. Greg Barmer, Pastor of First Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service at Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service from 1:00pm until 2:00pm.

    Peyton was born in Washington on September 4, 1921, son of Richard Peyton and Elsie Kelly Holloman. He was a graduate of Washington High School and NC State University where he was a member of the track team and a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was an Architectural Engineer by profession, Eagle Scout, athlete and sports enthusiast.

    Peyton proudly served in the US Navy during WWII as Lieutenant and PT boat Captain. He lovingly taught his children and grandchildren many life lessons through his sharing of profound combat experiences.

    His wife of 50 years, Emily Anne Rhodes Holloman, and his oldest daughter, Robbins Holloman Rees, preceded Peyton in death.

    He is survived by his wife of 6 years, Jean Reger Holloman, daughters- Frances Holloman Penick and husband Mike of Raleigh, Elsie Taylor Phillips of Raleigh, son-in-law Bobby Rees of Washington, grandchildren- John D. Williams and wife Julie of Raleigh, Emily Anne Taylor Farrell and husband Mike of Raleigh, Mary-Peyton Penick Amburn and husband Daniel of Raleigh, Grayson David Taylor and wife Lauren of Raleigh, Michael Steele Penick, Jr. and wife Robyn of Wake Forest, James William Phillips of Raleigh, and Danielle Rees of Washington, great-grandchildren - Devan Williams, Haley Williams, Whitaker Amburn, Emma Farrell, Caroline Amburn, William Taylor, Peyton Ruth Taylor and Mary-Shepard Penick.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Transitions Hospice Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 transitionslifecare.org.
