We will have Eric Rouse and Francis X. De Luca as speakers at or our April 18 Conservative Club meeting at King Chicken. Time - 6:30 pm. Food: Barbecue and Fried Chicken with sides and a drink for $11.00, includes the tax. Both of these gentlemen will be interesting and both have credentials to fill the seat.

Attached is an 8 page memo about how we got to where we are with the bad situation in the jail. It was written by charlie rose, the chief deputy.

The message for you as a tax payer is that we are deliberately not doing a short term fix while we address the long term problem. No one during the past ten years had said this is something we need to fix. Commissioners have asked several times, during shutdowns, what else needs fixing. So, who dropped the ball.

Part of the jail is shut down. The cost is $2,500 per day, additional cost, to keep prisoners out of county. It looks like this will come to between $750,000 and one million in additional expense. Why not do a temporary fix and save most of that money.

The question about making repairs is never answered in the memo. Notice that only a few commissioners were involved in the bad decisions that have been made. The problem was known in January and still has not been presented to the board from the viewpoint of examining alternatives. These guys never had an open meeting, they just decide to throw money at it.

Commissioner Langley has an agenda item Monday night, April 1, 2019, to have a referendum on building a new jail.
