Press Release:

Today, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, a top Republican and conservative leader in the House of Representatives, endorsed Dr. Joan Perry for Congress in the NC-3 Special Election to fill the seat of the late Congressman Walter Jones. Previously, Perry earned the endorsement of the largest political grassroots network of pro-life Americans, Susan B. Anthony List.

"I'm proud to endorse Dr. Perry," said Cathy. "We need more strong, dynamic, and conservative leaders like her. Joan is a warrior for human dignity and will fight in the halls of Congress for the potential of every person in North Carolina's third district-- just like she has as a mother and pediatrician."

"I'm honored to receive this endorsement from Cathy McMorris Rodgers," said Joan. "She's a trailblazer, a proven conservative, and knows how harmful the socialist agenda would be to our country. Her endorsement is a game changer for me as we head into the April 30 Republican primary."

Dr. Joan Perry is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, where she was one of the first women to earn the Morehead Scholarship. During medical school at UNC, she married her husband, Jimbo, and stayed there for an additional three years to complete her residency in pediatrics. With the birth of her first son during medical school and second son during internship/residency, Joan quickly learned how to juggle the demands of motherhood and a career. Upon residency completion, she moved to Kinston where she and Jimbo added three more sons to the line-up. She later earned appointments to the UNC Board of Governors, Gov. Pat McCrory's health and human services transition team, and Gov. Jim Martin's North Carolina Day Care Commission. A dedicated triathlete, she and her husband have housed more than 20 youth and young adults who needed a loving home. They helped to start Grace Fellowship Church over 25 years ago and remain active members today.

Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) is serving her eighth term in Congress. Her race was just one of two districts in the entire country where more people voted in the 2018 congressional race than in the Presidential election in 2016. She won by nearly 10 points. She was endorsed by President Donald J. Trump, the Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List), the National Rifle Association (NRA), and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). She is also a recipient of the Award for Conservative Excellence in recognition of her A+ rating with the American Conservative Union.

Cathy served as the House Republican Conference Chair, the fourth-highest ranking Republican in the House, from 2012-2018. As Chair, she was the highest ranking Republican woman in Congress. She is a senior member on the Energy and Commerce Committee. Cathy is the 200th woman to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the first woman to have given birth three times while serving in the House.
