Attention Volunteer Firefighters: Half Price Lifetime Adult Hunting or Fishing Licenses Available Starting Oct. 1st | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Raleigh, NC     On August 27th, House Bill 597 was signed into law containing a key provision that will allow any volunteer firefighter that has been an eligible member of any volunteer fire department for five consecutive years, including the prior fiscal year, may purchase any adult resident lifetime hunting or fishing license for a 50% discount. This fee reduction becomes effective on October 1, 2019.

    "This is a small but important token of appreciation for our volunteer firefighters," said Representative John Bell and Senator Jim Perry. "It will also serve as a key recruitment and retention tool for volunteer firefighters that our communities so desperately need and rely on. We are hopeful that all eligible volunteer firefighters will take advantage of this great opportunity."

    Relevant Language:     SECTION 12. G.S. 113-276 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: "(o) An eligible member of a volunteer fire department for five consecutive fiscal years, including the prior fiscal year, may be issued any adult resident lifetime license issued and administered by the Wildlife Resources Commission for fifty percent (50%) of the applicable license fee amount. For purposes of this subsection, the term "eligible member" means an individual appearing on the certified roster of eligible firefighters submitted to the North Carolina State Firefighters' Association under G.S. 58-86-25."
