The Jail Rat Hole Continues to Make Beaufort County Poor | Eastern NC Now

    Jail expenses in excess of normal jail costs are continuing to accumulate at he the rate of about $25,000 per month. This has been going on since January of 2019. We will easily waste $300,000 this year and probably another $150,000 in 2020. This does not include the wasteful cost of replacing jail door locks at a cost of about $900.000.

    The cause is simply miss management by the majority of the Beaufort County Board of Commissioners. The decision made by Sheriff Coleman along with Jerry Evans and Frankie Waters, Langley and Booth to start housing prisoners out of county rather than calling the repair people to fix door locks. I called the repair people and they were never called. This is a great example of elected officials failing to have the repairs made. Irresponsible commissioners along with Sheriff Coleman simply wrote a check on your account to get new locks.

    Even if a new system were justified we could have continued maintenance on the existing system until the replacements were made. This is high handed and irresponsible government at best. But, this is not their money, ,it is yours.

    This is a prime example of how politicians throw money at problems instead of applying management principles. These decisions were made by yellow sheet Republicans along with their Democrat buddies. Jerry Evans and Frankie Waters are "Yellow Sheet Republicans".

    There are several other ways Beaufort County costs can be reduced to save money. One is to not use "continuation budget" management principles. Continuation budgets simply take whatever the expenses were last year and add this years new and wanted items to the new budget. Taxes are increased to pay for the mismanagement. This is how taxes have been increased each year since the liberal Republican/Democrat gang took over about five years ago.

    Every department in the County is now over spending. There is zero control of overtime isn mist departments.

    This can all be changed by replacing the liberals, both Democrats and Republicans in the 2020 elections. The way to make tx increases tax increases go away is to make the politicians who vote for them go away..

    The 2020 elections begin on December second of 2019. That is the date registrations begin for the 2020 elections. The books close on December 20. We need new conservative candidates to flip this Board of County Commissioners form Liberal to Conservative. Poor
