Students Receive Darragh Foundation and Other Scholarships | Eastern North Carolina Now

    The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following scholarship recipients for the fall 2019 semester. Students can register now for spring 2020 classes. Most of these students received the Darragh Foundation Scholarship. Established in 1998 by Richard and Mildred Darragh, the Darragh family focuses on the impact of education in the communities it serves. The Darragh Foundation's mission is "Helping to Improve the Lives of Others." Scholarships from the foundation are awarded to Continuing Education students seeking their high school equivalency diploma and students working towards an industry-recognized credential returning to the workforce. Scholarships are awarded biannually and students must show academic promise and demonstrate need.


    Tenisha Stokes Washington, 41, received the Darragh Foundation Scholarship. The Williamston resident is working toward her Registered Medical Assistant certification. She is a mother of one. She plans to become a licensed practical nurse.







    Chantal Whitney, 25, received the Darragh Foundation Scholarship. The Greenville resident is working toward her Emergency Medical Technician certification. She is a mother of two and the daughter of Vickie Whitney of Pantego. She attended Kurt Hahn High School.






    Deborah Williams, 53, received the Darragh Foundation Scholarship. The Washington resident is working toward her Nurse Aide II certification. She attended Jane Adam High School. Williams currently works at Country Living Group Home as a supervisor.







    Renita Billups, 35, received the Darragh Foundation Scholarship. The Greenville resident is working toward her Nurse Aide II certification. She attended Denbigh Adult Learning Center. Billups currently works at Oak Haven Assisted Living. She is a mother of one.


    Kenneth Worsley, 47, received the Darragh Foundation Scholarship. The Washington resident is working toward his Income Maintenance II certification. He attended Washington High School and holds an Associate in Applied Science in Human Services Technology. Worsley currently works at BCCC as a receptionist. He is a father of two and the son of Barbara Boston and Taylor Boston.





    Karena Barnes, 32, received the Foundation Board of Directors Scholarship. The Winterville resident is working toward her Registered Medical Assistant certification. She attended North Pitt High School. She a mother of one and the daughter of Michelle Purvis and David Purvis of Greenville. She plans to work in the medical field.

    Established in 2015, this scholarship is awarded to Continuing Education students seeking an industry-recognized credential. Students must demonstrate financial need and meet qualifying guidelines.


    Latham Waters, 20, received the James Franklin & Hannah Roberson Bagwell Scholarship. The Washington resident is working toward his Associate in Applied Science in Criminal Justice Technology. He was homeschooled and currently works at the Food Lion in Chocowinity. He is the son of Jim Waters and the grandson of Carl and Ann Woolard.

    Established in 1997, this endowment funds annual scholarships in memory of William Riley and Rosa Watson Roberson and William "Bill" Roberson Bagwell. The recipients of these awards must be high school or GED graduates enrolled in a degree, diploma, or certificate program, must demonstrate financial need, and must show academic promise.
