Press Release:

Lt. Governor Dan Forest claimed the Republican nomination for Governor of North Carolina on Tuesday with 89% of the vote.

He won all 100 counties after a grassroots campaign that touched all corners of the state.

"It's a big night for the Forest campaign and for all the people that have worked so hard for so long," said in a victory speech at the N.C. Republican Party headquarters on Tuesday evening.

"Our job is to push forward with a positive campaign about what is best for the people of North Carolina."

Forest first ran for office in 2012, when he was elected lieutenant governor. He became only the second Republican to hold the office since 1897. Four years later, he won re-election by more than 300,000 votes, a larger margin than both the winning presidential and gubernatorial candidates.

In office, Lt. Governor Forest has focused on expanding choice in education and creating a state that is open for business, big and small. Forest led the effort that made North Carolina the first state to connect every classroom with high-speed broadband internet.

He now faces Gov. Roy Cooper in the November 3 election. Forest has pledged to run a campaign that unites North Carolinians around common values and pushes for greater opportunity in education and the job market for all people.

"Who do we want to be in North Carolina?" Forest asked. "In so many ways, I think our brightest days are yet ahead. We are blessed to live in the greatest country in the world, and we're even doubly blessed to live in the greatest state in the greatest country in the world.

"I think our opportunity and possibility are endless."
