Press Release:

RALEIGH, N.C.     Cal Cunningham has spent the entire COVID-19 pandemic attempting to stay relevant and score cheap political points by calling for petty political investigations of President Trump that will do nothing to protect the physical and economic health of North Carolinians. When it comes to holding his own party accountable, however, Cunningham is nowhere to be found.

As the Raleigh News & Observer reported today, Governor Cooper is ordering county officials to withhold COVID-19 related death certificate records from the media. This key information is critical to know the extent of the spread of COVID-19 as discussions begin on when we can safely open the economy. Members of the North Carolina media have noted that this, "lack of transparency we're seeing can erode trust in the government response...which I think can be dangerous at a time when our leaders are asking us to make big sacrifices for the good of our community."

"Cal Cunningham's refusal to hold Governor Cooper accountable for suppressing valuable information critical to the COVID-19 response effort shows that he will always put partisan politics over keeping North Carolinians safe," said NCGOP spokesman Sasha Duncan. "If he's not willing to hold his own party accountable for reckless leadership, all of Cunningham's other hypocritical calls for investigations should be dismissed as the partisan stunts that they are."

    BACKGROUND

  • Cunningham has said that if he is elected that he will hold Democrats accountable, but he has not yet criticized any decisions made by Democrats during his entire campaign
