The crowds have increased as Germany enters its second weekend of anti-lockdown protests by ordinary Germans. The police were out in force, fully armed, and making arrests.

The crowds have increased as Germany enters its second weekend of anti-lockdown protests by ordinary Germans. The police were out in force, fully armed, and making arrests. Protest signs held messages like "I want my life back" and "Freedom isn't everything, but without freedom, everything is nothing".

Over a thousand people turned out in Berlin. While last weekend's protest was mainly by leftists, this weekend's anti-lockdown protest included disgruntled Germans from across the political spectrum.

Unlike the riots in Paris against the lockdwon, Muslem migrants were not apparently involved and the protests were peaceful.

Health matters are a state rather than national function in Germany, and North Rhein - Westpahalia governor Armin Lascher, who is regarded as Merkel's likely successor, is at the forefront in ending the lockdowns.
