Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Dan Forest to Sue Roy Cooper Over Original Executive Order

    FirstInFreedomDaily.com is reporting:

  • It seems like ages ago that Governor Roy Cooper took his first executive action on the coronavirus, mandating the closure of bars and restaurants. He did so without the concurrence of the Council of State, as required by law, and faced public criticism from Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest and other Council members.
  • Yet, Cooper was undeterred, over the subsequent weeks repeatedly ignoring the legal role of the Council of State as he unilaterally decreed lockdown orders that nuked the economy.

We commend Lt. Gov. Forest for taking this action. The Republican Leadership in the Legislature has claimed "it will do no good to sue Cooper because the courts will just fall in line behind him." Forest may face that very stonewall but so be it. He is doing the right thing. If he takes it to the Supreme Court and they play politics with it then that in and of itself is worth the suit. It could have a significant impact on the the judicial races if they don't uphold the law. Kudos to Lt. Gov. Forest.
