Denmark's center-left government has significantly tightened its policy on refugees, implementing new policies to 1) eliminate all welfare to refugees, and 2) send refugees home as soon as their home country is considered safe. The changes were announced by Denmark's immigration minister who is herself the daughter of an Ethiopian immigrant. One of the factors she cited was the fact that a majority of Syrian refugees still did not have jobs five years after coming to Denmark. She called the current policy a "fiasco".

"The new thing now is that we will also demand a return trip. Refugees must return home when there is peace in their home country. I hope that Syrians will be the first group where temporary residence really means temporary residence." declared the immigration minister.

This is the opposite direction that the US Democrats want to go on asylum seekers.
