What We Lose When Arthur Williams Wins | Eastern North Carolina Now

The run off election from the State primary is now in progress. There are only a hand full of candidates from both the Republican and Democrat tickets. Run off elections occur when no candidate gets more than 40 percent of the vote. In addition to the State wide candidates we have a local race on the Republican ticket for the House District 6 seat. That District covers the northern part of Beaufort County and all of Hyde, Dare and Washington Counties. This will be a very low turn out election with only an estimated eighty thousand out of six million voters showing up to vote.

These elections are important. Both the Democrat and Republican parties are still in the process of picking their best candidates for the fall elections. You, the voter, will determine who runs. All registered voters, even independent or unaffiliated, are eligible to vote in the run off election even if they did not vote in the primary election. Early voting is now in progress. You may early vote at one location in every county each week day from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM, and on Saturday July 14 from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM. You may vote at your precinct on Tuesday July 17.

Primary and run off elections are the only way individuals can have a say on who the party decides to run for public office. Because of the low turn out, every vote is worth gold. As few as 2,000 voters may determine whether conservative Mattie Lawson or liberal, opportunist Arthur Williams represents the Republican party this November.

Another intereting race is between Mike Causey and Richard Morgan for State Insurance Commissioner. Richard Morgan made the deal with the Democrats to sell out Republicans when he was in the House. Mike Causey is the qualified and best candidate in this race.

Mattie Lawson has been a conservative Republican more than 35 years. Proof of her conservative principles is her activity as a Tea Party organizer. She has worked as and engineer for large companies providing national defense services. She understands the local issues of jobs, the environment, fishing, and hunting. She believes in the right to own and use guns. She is a principled Republican.

Arthur Williams is a four term Yellow Dog Democrat who claims he saw the light four months before time to register to run for office. He has been a Republican less than one year. During his four terms in the House of Representatives in Raleigh he was a lackey for the Marc Basnight Machine. He publicly claims to be a close personal friend of the convicted felon former Speaker of the House, Jim Black. He was Black's Lackey.

Of great concern to Eastern North Carolina Republicans was Williams announcement that he had the support of the big boys in Raleigh and had been selected to run. Williams claims are supported by information that Thom Tillis, Speaker of the House, recruited Republicans to endorse Williams.

There are concerns across North Carolina about the Republican Party leadership injecting itself into local politics by picking both Democrat and Republican hacks to replace conservative Republicans. Some are of he opinion that the Republican leadership is trying to set up the same kind of machine that was run by Marc Basnight. The Basnight Machine picked candidates who would vote in Raleigh as they were told. To make the system work the bulk of the campaign money was donated to Basnight or to the Democrat party. The money was then doled out to Basnight's yes men. The Machine then delivered special legislation and government favors to those who donated the campaign money. Arthur Williams was very good at taking orders from the Democrat Raleigh power brokers. This is believed to be the reason Williams was recruited by the New Republican Power Brokers. Williams served his old masters well and is politically unprincipled enough to serve the new power brokers.

There are other claims that Williams was an active Obama supporter. Williams has not indicated he is voting for Romney to be President. However, based on accusations made on one web site that calls Williams "The Carolina Chameleon", Williams would have no trouble in flipping to say he is voting for Romney.

Williams received a grade of "F" from the conservative Civitas Institute.. He scored 30 out of a possible 100 points.

Williams lost his 2010 election to Bill Cook and was then passed over by the Democrat Party to replace Marc Basnight when he resigned.

Now is the time to keep the Republican Party clean by putting on your "white hat" and becoming the "revolutionary" who strikes a blow against machine politics by voting for principled, conservative, Republican, Mattie Lawson.
