Mrs. Edith Ray Coward Foreman, age 96, formerly of Beaufort County, died Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

    Mrs. Edith Ray Coward Foreman, age 96, formerly of Beaufort County, died Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

    Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, conducted by Rev. Adron Modlin. Richard Anderson, Jr., Dillon Anderson, Nate Anderson, Devin Murphy, Aaron Jones, and Kinnith Lilley III will serve as pallbearers.

    Mrs. Foreman was born in Beaufort County on January 22, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Jesse Coward and Olivia Florence Alligood Coward. Mrs. Foreman worked for over 30 years as a seamstress/assembler at Samson Shirt Factory. She had resided in the Louisburg area since 2012. Mrs. Foreman attended Alligood Church of God while living in this area. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, cooking, shopping and spending time with her dog, Coco.

    Mrs. Foreman was married to Burl Thomas Foreman, who preceded her in death.

    Survivors include a daughter, Betty Jane Coward Link of Liberty, N.C.; two sons, William "Billy" Coward and wife, Sarah of Chocowinity, George Thomas Foreman of Louisburg; sister, Shirley C. Whisenant of Washington; daughter in law, Frances Martin of Chocowinity; 14 grandchildren, Cheryl Darlene Wade, Michelle Dawn Maxfield, Penny Ray Coward, Crystal Gail Anderson, Christy Lynn Latchaw, Donna Renae Depner, Edith Nichole Murphy, Carrie Diane Jones, William Fillingame, George Foreman, Jr., Stephanie Edwards, Joseph Stowe, Lindy Foreman, David Foreman; 29 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.

    In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Foreman was preceded in death by three daughters, Hazel Kirk, Judy Fillingame, Ruby Casper; two sons, Jesse Ray Foreman, Burl Foreman, Jr.; sister, Mary C. Congleton; brother, Jesse S. Coward; and two grandchildren, Daron Lewis and David moody.

    The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside and other times at the home of her son, Billy Coward, 6223 Hwy 17 South, Chocowinity.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Edith c. Foreman Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1465, Washington, N.C. 27889.
