Cheri Beasley Flip Flops on Voter ID… in One Sentence | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Washington, D.C.     In the span of one sentence issued by a spokeswoman, Cheri Beasley took both sides of the voter ID issue.

    Cheri Beasley's opposition to voter ID dates back to 2014, but given the recent major flip-flops by Raphael Warnock and Stacey Abrams, it's apparently en vogue to try to gaslight the public and pretend you supported it all along.

    So when Beasley was asked if she supports S.1, the "Corrupt Politicians Act," which would ban state laws requiring voter ID, or Joe Manchin's proposal which includes voter ID provisions, her spokeswoman gave this head-scratching answer:

    "Cheri would have voted to allow debate on the For the People Act and also supports the suggested compromise that would ensure people have access to the ballot box and their right to vote is protected."

    In other words, Beasley both opposes and supports voter ID. If North Carolina Democrat Senate candidates continue the "have your cake and eat it too" strategy on major issues, this primary will get out of control quicker than anticipated.

    Unlike Beasley, Jeff Jackson couldn't even be bothered to take a position on the issue, continuing his trend of dodging tough questions.

    Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: "Cheri Beasley has barely been heard from since she entered the race, and her first order of business is to take both sides of the Voter ID issue. In the span of one sentence, her campaign said she supports a bill that bans Voter ID and also supports a proposal that includes a national Voter ID law. It's clear that Cheri Beasley is struggling to figure out which way the wind will blow."
