Michigan to hold referendum to strip governor of emergency powers | Eastern NC Now

Michigan Governor Whitmer has been one of the more dictatorial governors in abusing emergency powers over the Covid panic, but now the people of the state are about to bring that to a screeching halt by repealing her emergency powers.  Unlock Michigan, a citizens rights group has had its petition for a voter referendum certified to take a proposal to repeal the 1945 Emergency Powers of the Governor Act to the people of the state.  Passage of the referendum by the voters will repeal that legislation.

The group has faced stalling by the Democrat Secretary of State and the Democrat members of the Board of Canvassers, and had to get the help of the State Supreme Court to get their petition certified, but it has now been done and the issue will move forward for voter approval.

Pennsylvania voters have already passed referenda repealing its governor's emergency powers.

In North Carolina, legislation to limit the governor's emergency powers, sponsored by Rep. Keith Kidwell, has passed the House but is stuck in committee in the Senate.
