GOP win in suburban Atlanta special election shows huge momentum | Eastern NC Now

14 point swing to Republicans

ENCNow

Republicans swept special legislative elections in several states this past Tuesday, but the most closely watched as an indicator of where the crucial suburban vote was headed for 2022 was in Cobb County, a suburban area outside Atlanta.  Georgia's House District 34 saw a heavier than usual turnout, and a swing of a massive 14 points to the Republicans.

The outgoing legislator, a Republican who resigned to take a new job, had won the seat in 2020 by 12 points, but in the special election, the margin increased to a huge landslide 26 points for the new legislator.  This was in spite of leftist Democrat activist Stacey Abrams and her organization working the district hard for his Democrat opponent.

Republicans have underperformed with the suburban vote in the last two elections, but this result in suburban Atlanta shows it surging back to the GOP.
