Longtime Dem Sheriff in NC: The Democrat Party Has Left Me | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Washington, D.C    Gaston County Sheriff Alan Cloninger, who has held the job for 16 years, is leaving the Democrat Party and is laying the blame at the feet of Democrats and their 'Defund the Police' mantra. In a scathing op-ed in the Gaston Gazette, Cloninger held nothing back:

    "It saddens me that the same Democrat Party that I grew up in no longer exists. Some of the new Democrats in Washington attack and degrade all law enforcement officers who risk their lives every day to protect the people and in return, are given no respect. This is wrong and unjustified...The present Democratic Party has left me and there is no home for a conservative Democrat in today's Democratic Party."

    There is no place where this is truer than in North Carolina and their Democrat primary. Cheri Beasley has teamed up with radical supporter of defunding the police, Congresswoman Cori Bush, and State Senator Jeff Jackson continues his quest to be the next Beto (lol!).

    Statement from NRSC Spokesman T.W. Arrighi: "The Democrat Party in North Carolina is crumbling faster than ever before as it is taken over by socialists who represent a small fraction of voters in the state. Sheriff Cloninger's announcement that he is leaving the party is yet another example of this once proud party's decay and insistence on liberal dogma. Politicians like Cheri Beasley and Jeff Jackson are at the core of the problem and their race to the Left will lead to a sound defeat for Democrats in 2022."
