Here is why "independent" redistricting commissions are a fraud

The appointment of a "Bernie Bro" with a social media history of support of the far left of the Democrat Party as an "independent" on Michigan's "citizens redistricting commission" illustrates the fraud of such commissions. Those seeking those seats are supposed to "self identify" as to their politics, and Anthony Eid, despite his background, self-identified as an "independent". This rabid Bernie Sanders supporter ended up getting one of the five "independents" on the 13 member commission.

The same thing happened with Arizona's redistricting commission ten years ago, when a leftwinger registered as an independent ended up in the one tie-breaking seat allocated to an independent, giving the Democrats effective control of the commission. In California, hiring a Democrat firm as staff to the commission gave Democrats effective control and produced a more partisan map than elected legislators would have dared put forward.

It has now gotten worse on the "independent" redistricting commission in Michigan. Another self identified "independent" redistricting commissioner, the second out of five, has been revealed as really a far left Democrat who has a record of political contributions to the left wing of the Democrat Party and as a speaker to left wing Democrat organizations. The Democrats have thrown in ringers, just as they did on the sole "independent" tie-breaker on the Arizona redistricting commission ten years ago. That should have been expected. The organization that ran the initiative and referendum campaign to set up this redistricting commission was heavily funded by national Democrats.
