Texas again deploys National Guard to stop illegal aliens | Beaufort County Now | This time at Eagle Pass - part of Operation Lone Star

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Texas' Operation Lone Star to stop illegal alien migrants entering the state is now concentrating on the Eagle Pass area, where Texas is also rapidly building its own border wall to stop the flow of migrants. Governor Abbott has deployed National Guard troops as well as state law enforcement to the sector to block illegal aliens entering the state.  The Eagle Pass sector has long been considered a high migrant traffic area by the Border Patrol.

So far, Texas state troops and law enforcement have made 6,799 criminal arrests, some for criminal trespass into the state, and others for drug, firearm, and other crimes.  Texas has reopened a shuttered prison to hold those arrested, but some are turned over to the border patrol.  Prosecutions of the arrested illegal aliens are also proceeding through Texas state courts.

The massive presence of national guard and law enforcement has been shown to be a major deterrent to illegal aliens even trying to penetrate the border.
