Wanted: Conservative state senate candidate | Eastern NC Now

New District needs new conservative representation

ENCNow

Beaufort County is in a new state senate district, and this time it is a Republican district.  It is made up of Craven, Beaufort, and Lenoir. The only problem is that Lenoir County brings a RINO incumbent with it, who presently represents Lenoir and Wayne counties.  The new district, however, is wide open for a conservative to seek the seat.

Incumbent RINO Jim Perry was never involved as a Republican activist on significant contributor (2 races only and widely separated) until Louis Pate of Wayne County resigned the seat in mid-term in 2019.  Perry was the replacement and has only won election to one term since.

In Raleigh, Perry has been carrying water for some of progressive governor Roy Cooper's pet issues, the Green New Deal and the Obamacare Medicaid expansion.  When the 3rd District GOP had activists call to express concern that some Republicans in the legislature were trying to do the Medicaid expansion, Perry contacted party leaders and said the issue was dead and there was no reason to keep calling.  However, after making that claim, which had been duly passed on, Perry was still personally pushing the Obamacare Medicaid expansion with Republican legislators in the House.

Perry's role in passing North Carolina's Green New Deal, which will cost our electric ratepayers a bundle, is even worse.  Perry sits on the Rules Committee, which is the group that jammed the bill through on a very fast track immediately after it was modified in another committee, blindsiding Republican activists and voters who never knew it was coming until after it was done. With almost no notice, another committee made a total change in the bill, and the very next day the Rules Committee put it on the Senate floor for its final two formal votes.  That is dirty pool and Perry was in the thick of it.   Perry is a player for the insiders and special interests and against the grassroots and his role in the Green New Deal passage clearly shows it.  He is a rich guy and presumably those electric rate increases will be easier for him to afford.  His campaign committee is well funded by the special interests that benefit from the Green New Deal.
