We cannot continue being governed by scientific advisors | Eastern NC Now

Sir John Redwood is a senior Conservative member of the British parliament and a former cabinet minister.  He has recently written an article for the prominent British website Conservative Home entitled "We cannot continue being governed by scientific advisors".  One of Redwood's points is that there is really no such thing as "the science" on matters that are still largely unknown and subject to study.  His main focus is how this type of reliance on scientific advisors distorts the way government should work in a democratic system.

In his farewell speech, President Dwight Eisenhower warned about government falling under the sway of a "scientific - technical elite", but that is exactly what is happening to the US. Indeed, President Eisenhower warned that it was even more dangerous to democracy when that "scientific - technical elite" was funded by the government itself.  Whether it is "Professor Lockdown" Neil Ferguson in the UK or Anthony Fauci in the US, this is a clear and present threat to our democracy.
