Congressional Redistricting to be appealed to SCOTUS | Eastern NC Now

With the 3-judge Superior Court panel approving the state legislative districts drawn by the legislature, and appeals from the plaintiffs denied by the state Supreme Court, those districts are set.  There appear to be no grounds for plaintiffs to appeal to the US Supreme Court.  Monkeying with these lines was complicated for plaintiffs due to the state Constitution's requirement of respecting county lines.

Beaufort County will be in solidly Republican state House and Senate districts.  Both, however, will be greatly changed, with the county paired with a completely new set of counties at both levels.

The Congressional map is a different story.  There are no state Constitutional restraints on county lines, there.  The Superior Court panel threw out the legislature's map and substituted one drawn by 3 "special masters" or in reality by their 4 "assistants".  Two of those assistants were objected to by defendants because they were not non-partisan as they were supposed to be, but highly partisan Democrat Party operative who have participated in blatant gerrymandering against Republicans in other states and who had illegal communication with the Democrats in this case.  These politically corrupt special master "assistants" is how the Democrats rigged our Congressional redistricting process.  Neither the Superior Court panel nor the Supreme Court did anything about it.

The legislatively drawn Congressional map complied with all the requirements set out by the state Supreme Court, even though the requirements are nowhere found in the state Constitution and the Democrats were legislating from the bench.  Why then did the Superior Court reject it?  It was not Democrat enough.  Instead they went with a map that had a partisan taint because two of the special master "assistants" who actually drew the new map had been caught colluding with NC Democrats on redistricting and have a record as extreme Democrat Party hacks in other states.  One of the things they did to make things more Democrat was to split local communities of black voters, while the legislative maps kept them intact.  The Democrat map, thus makes it harder for blacks to elect candidates from their own community than the legislature's map.

Now the defendants from the state legislature have announced they will appeal the Congressional District maps to the US Supreme Court on federal Constitutional grounds.  The main issue is that the Constitution calls on the legislatures to draw maps not unelected "special masters".

It is time to get our crooked courts out of the political process.
