Lithium is a key component of the climate alarmist jihad against fossil fuels. It takes lots of it to make the batteries for electric cars, for the huge and unreliable storage battery systems for "renewable" energy, and lots of related things. Lithium is also prone to spontaneously combust and start extremely hot fires that are difficult to extinguish and give off toxic and potentially deadly fumes. Quite a few electric car owners have discovered that the hard way, some even losing their houses as well as cars when the lithium fires erupt. It tendency to spontaneously combust is why lithium batteries are not allowed on passenger planes.
