Ola Ray Parnell Deal | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Mrs. Ola Ray Parnell Deal, age 94, a resident of 105 Patricia Road, Washington, died Sunday, May 1, 2022, at her home. She drifted off into a peaceful sleep with her family by her side.

    Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Jonathan Phillips. Burial will follow in the Deal Cemetery in Aurora.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Butch Coe, William Snell, Alton Roberson, Dalton Rogerson, Johnnie Whitaker, and Matthew Whitaker.

    Mrs. Deal was born in Forsyth County, N.C. on March 10, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Alvin Vairance Parnell, Sr. and Onie Pennell Parnell. Mrs. Deal attended Aurora schools and later became a homemaker. She was an avid gardener blessed with a green thumb and enjoyed sharing many of her varieties of plants with friends and family. She also enjoyed quilt making and shared over thirty quilts with loved ones. She was a past member of the South Creek Missionary Baptist Church and current member of Dublin Grove FWB Church.

    On June 15, 1946, she married Earl Eugene Deal, who preceded her in death, March 18, 1991. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage raising three daughters and one son.

    Mrs. Deal is survived by her daughter, Betty Deal Sandow and husband, Sammy of Washington; son, Earl Eugene Deal, Jr. of Arapahoe, N.C.; five grandchildren, DeDe Snell and husband, Danny, Jennifer Snell, Michelle Coe and husband, Bobby, Joseph Bonner and wife, Jennifer, Brandon Dowdy; nine great grandchildren, Alyssa Hand and husband, Quinn, Jessica DelaHoussaye and husband Codi, Aaron Wiggs, Jason Cunningham, Christopher Bonner; Chloe, Azariah, Oliver and Rubi Dowdy; six great-great grandchildren, Grant, Shaemus, and Emaline Hand; Cyruss, Rhett and Jax DelaHoussaye; brother, Sidney A. Parnell of Phoenix, AZ; son in law, William Snell of Picayune, Miss., and sister in law, Shirley Deal of Chocowinity.

    In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Deal was preceded in death by two daughters, Doris D. Snell, and Velma Deal; great grandchild, William Russell Rasco; two brothers, Alvin B. Parnell, Jr., and Bobby Parnell; five sisters, Bernice Wainwright, Elsie Morton, Nancy Jones, Callie Beddard, Addie Roberson; son in law, Dennis Mills; and daughter in law, Theresa Cavanaugh.

    The family will receive friends 12 Noon to 1:00 PM Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home and at her home, 1626 Spring Creek Road, Aurora following the service.
