Sonya Curry, mother of Golden State Warriors star Stephen "Steph" Curry, has opened up about getting an abortion, and then rejecting an abortion following another unplanned pregnancy.

Sonya wrote in her book, "Fierce Love: A Memoir of Family, Faith, and Purpose," that she considered aborting son Stephen, whose father is former NBA player Dell Curry, and recalls standing outside a Planned Parenthood before God intervened.

"God had a plan for that child," the mother recently said.

Sonya had an abortion in high school, before she became pregnant with Stephen. "Telling those stories and just reliving those feelings that I kind of suppressed and pushed down for a long time ... you wonder did it mess them up at some point?" the mother disclosed to podcast host Jemele Hill.

When Sonya became pregnant for a second time, she considered abortion, but eventually knew she couldn't go through with it.

"There could be no Stephen. If I would have gone through that there would have been no Wardell Stephen Curry II, and ya know, God had a plan for that child," she told pastor and host Luke Norsworthy in a separate podcast, according to LiveAction.

"And, just the Spirit interceding at that moment, in a way that I didn't even know at the moment was happening, just spoke to again, the purpose of faith ... that, okay, I don't want to make this decision, because that would have been the second time," she continued. "And I don't want to make that decision again, and now I just gotta trust God to move forward with me having this child."

Speaking to Hill earlier this month on "Jemele Hill is Unbothered," Sonya said she aborted a baby during her high school years. "[I was] dating, you know, the older guy when I was in high school leading into college and making the decision about terminating a pregnancy," the 55-year-old said, according to Yahoo! "Telling those stories and just reliving those feelings that I kind of suppressed and pushed down for a long time ... you wonder did it mess them up at some point?"

Sonya also revealed that she's talked to Stephen about how she almost aborted him.

"I had shared it with him," she said. "One of the things that, you know, raising our kids Dell and I had decided that there [were] some things we could tell them, we didn't hide a lot about our relationship as much because we always wanted to use situations as teaching opportunities for them so that they could understand it at the developmental stage that they were at, but just to also not hide things."

"I just think sometimes as parents we think we got to hide things and kids wanted to know that we're real and it's not a fairytale out here," she continued.

"When you have all that we have and you're in the arenas that we're in, it's kind of hard for them not to think they're in utopia ... so we tried to deliberately share some things with them," Sonya added.
