SMUT | Eastern North Carolina Now

A few days ago, as I was finishing shaving, my wife mentioned that she had an upset stomach. So I handed her 2 Tums and set the bottle down on the vanity counter facing our mirror. The next morning, I noticed that the same bottle Tums faced our mirror and Tums had turned into SMUT. "SMUT - obscene or lascivious action, talk, pictures or stories". What a metaphor for what has happened to a country that once cured many of the upsets in the world and now is spreading misery across the land.

Drug addiction certainly is foremost in the list of upsets. The fact that state governments across the country have legalized the evil weed is an indication of how far we have slipped. Are we so weak-minded that in order to enjoy peace of mind we have to smoke or ingest chopped up leaves? After all the warnings about the weed being a gateway drug to further addictions, wouldn't you think that people would stop a behavior that puts themselves and others at risk? Where has a strong personal constitution gone to hide?

Then we come to "People of The Crotch". Their addiction encompasses a wide range of evils. Abortion, deviancy, pedophilia and pornography to the extent that we see and hear veiled and not so veiled references to the same in a vast array of commercials and so-called entertainment. To contrast, in my youth, one of the major TV networks presented live broadcasts of the New York Philharmonic every Sunday. As a matter of fact, at that time, attendance at concerts and theater events surpassed attendance at professional and collegiate sports events. Imagine that? Novelists could actually write gripping novels without sexual innuendo.

Now, sports announcers revel in the fact that some athlete got away with a dirty trick and point it out ad nauseam in living color.

Add to this the celebrities who couldn't possibly be considered role models for a decent family.

Finally, the addiction to money. Virtually all of the seven deadly sins are bound up in this addiction. Most prominently Greed, Envy, Lust and Pride. It is not so much the need for money that drives this addiction but rather "The Love of Money". We are enduring a famine of Beauty and Truth to the extent that even our children are being force fed deviancy and lies by a generation of bureaucrats who have grown up thinking SMUT is de rigueur. We have already lost a good portion of the previous two generations, must we lose another?
