    An Amtrak train headed from Los Angeles to Chicago with a reported 243 people on board derailed close to Kansas City, Missouri, on Monday; multiple people have been reported injured. The Southwest Chief train derailed at Mendon, Missouri, roughly 100 miles northeast of Kansas City.

    News reports related the cause of the derailment; "Several cars of an Amtrak train derailed after hitting a dump truck at a public crossing," ABC News reported.

    On Sunday afternoon, three people died at the scene when an Amtrak commuter train smashed into a car ín Brentwood, California, roughly an hour from San Francisco, the California Highway Patrol reported. "Two adults were transported by ground to the hospital, but their conditions are unknown. One child was airlifted by helicopter to a local hospital and their condition is also unknown at this time," KRON 4 reported,
