Dynamic black woman emerges as conservative leader for Prime Minister UPDATE | Eastern NC Now

Kemi Badenoch is favorite of small "c" Conservatives

ENCNow

UPDATE:  Kemi Badenoch was one of the five candidates who have made the cut to stay in the race and will move on to televised leadership debates this weekend.  Her performance there will be critical to her winning the race. After the debates, there will be three more votes by  Conservative members of parliament until the field is reduced to two.  At that point, there will be a postal ballot of the 180,000 dues paid members of the Conservative Party to determine the winner.

Kemi Badenoch, a black woman and immigrant from Nigeria has emerged as the leading contender by small "c" Conservatives for prime minister.  Badenoch made a name for herself as Equalities Minister by stridently denouncing Black Lives Matter and Critical Race Theory, but she is also a proponent of low taxes, family values, a reduction in the size of government, and limited government, and has denounced Boris Johnson's green agenda, calling his "Net Zero" climate goals "unilateral economic disarmament".

Badenoch has won one of the spots to go forward in the first round of voting by fellow members of parliament.  In a poll by the Conservative leaning London Daily Telegraph among party supporters, Badenoch finished first among the contenders.  The final vote for prime minister will be submitted to dues paid Conservative Party members.
