Virginia offshore wind farm could cost consumers billions | Eastern NC Now

Electric ratepayers are on the hook if it doesn't work

ENCNow

A massive $9.8 Billion offshore wind farm has been approved by Virginia's Corporations Commission, which they had been mandated to do by legislation by Virginia's then Democrat-controlled legislature.   The commission noted that much of the design was unproven and that electric ratepayers would be on the hook for the cost if it failed or was inefficient.  Dominion Energy says it will likely have spent $3.7 Billion before they even know if it is going to work.  The commission pointed out that Dominion could have avoided the risk to consumers by arranging for an outside developer to build and operate the wind farm.

In North Carolina, we have a governor who is also a rabid advocate of expensive offshore wind and wants to build a big offshore wind farm near Wilmington.  Sadly, it is RINO legislative leaders, not Democrats, who have given him the backing to do so with their NC Green New Deal HB951.

$9.8 Billion is the starting cost. That price tag will be much higher before everything is finished.

NC's HB951 will definitely cost NC electric ratepayers money, not only from the fact that wind and solar electricity costs more than conventional electricity, but also from the fact that the bill allows Duke Energy to prematurely close coal burning electric plants and add the cost of their premature closure to consumers' power bills. Woke Duke Energy wanted out of the coal business and now the legislature is making customers pay for having that woke corporate wish come true. Duke's ESG preening will cost their customers some serious green.

One wonders how much Phil Berger and Tim Moore were paid off to be nothing but operatives of Duke Energy and the wind and solar bandits. They have screwed electric customers to the wall. They are no different than those hard left Democrat legislators in Virginia.
