Ukraine using unusual sources to target Russian bases | Eastern NC Now

latest is fake accounts with attractive women to get soldiers to tell info

Ukraine has used unusual sources to get good targeting info on Russian bases and other targets.  Early in the war, they monitored a Russian news broadcast with video of a large landing ship loaded with armored vehicles and ammo entering a harbor.  They identified the port, and that night the ship was visited by two of Ukraine's Turkish drones which destroyed it with most of its cargo still on board.  The ship sank in the main channel, closing the port to any further use by the Russians.

Later a young Ukrainian boy used his toy drone to search for Russians and found an armored column on the move.  He called the army and the column was targeted by artillery and destroyed.

Then searching Russian social media accounts, Ukrainians found key information on the air bases in Crimea where Russian warplanes were based.  Russian tourists had posted photos with the base in the background.  Ukrainian special forces then attacked the base and destroyed half of the Russian combat aircraft in Crimea.

Now, Ukrainian hackers have been more creative.  They created fake social media accounts claiming to be attractive women looking for Russian soldiers for a good time.  The "women" asked the soldiers who responded to send pictures of themselves.  Using these photos and identifying the background, Ukraine located a number of bases they did not know about and proceeded to destroy them with long range rocket artillery.

Currently, Ukrainian forces have three separate counteroffensives underway and are making progress in all three, especially the one aimed at retaking Kherson in the south.
