Chocowinity embezzlement scandal | Eastern NC Now

is it being swept under the rug?

ENCNow

The word is around the county that a person has been let go in Chocowinity town government with lots of money missing, including town money, money of local organizations, and money from several county accounts.  It has been several weeks now, and no arrest or other action so far.

Who is doing what?  Is the sheriff's department or the district attorney investigating?  Is the State Auditor involved in ascertaining the losses?  What is the town doing?  Is the county doing anything about county money involved?  Why has the media failed to break the story?  Who is protecting who? How much of the missing money can be recovered?

Has the town of Chocowinity turned this major embezzlement over to the sheriff's department or the district attorney? If not, why not? Are they trying to do a cover up? Regardless of that, the district attorney and the sheriff would clearly have heard of the embezzlement. Have they initiated any investigation? If not, why not? Has anyone forwarded this embezzlement info to the State Auditor or State Treasurer? They should be investigating it. And our county commission is a joke. They refuse to take any action to try to recover the county taxpayers money involved or punish those who stole it. They want to help cover up for the perp while throwing the county taxpayers, whose money was stolen under the bus. Just because the perp is the daughter of a longtime RINO county commissioner, why should they try to cover up for her? Jerry Langley, Frankie Waters, and Ed Booth are a disgrace. They are covering for a crony instead of looking out for the taxpayers money.

The media is trying to "disappear" this scandal, and they are not the only ones. When Commissioner Richardson tried to get the county commission to look into the county money involved at the last county commission meeting, he ran into a buzzsaw from the Jerry Langley - Frankie Waters coalition which wanted desperately to bury the issue. They actually said the county should not be trying to find out what happened to the county taxpayer dollars involved. Why do we have this political corruption on our county commission? Is it because of the perp's relationship to a former county commissioner? The Langley - Waters group are horrible stewards of the taxpayers money.

This scandal should not be a flash in the pan, with limited information to the public, and then made to disappear. Lots of taxpayer money, as well as other money, is missing.

When she was fired it was on WITN web site on 8/8/22 and also on WDN webpage on 8/9/22 and on the front page of the WDN on 8/10/22. But total silence since then.
