Biden illegally rewrites ObamaCare | Eastern NC Now

Joe Biden is not a king, but he often acts like one. The latest example is his decision to unilaterally rewrite a portion of the misnamed Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as ObamaCare.

At the time ObamaCare was passed, conservatives warned that it was a stepping stone to the eventual complete takeover of healthcare by the federal government. Democrats have long been in love with the concept of single-payer government healthcare and have continued to sing its praises by referencing European models. Of course, the sinister underbelly of this dream is that it would establish one of the biggest socialist programs ever implemented in America, as healthcare spending equates to one-fifth of the nation’s GDP.

In order to get the controversial law across the finish line, the Obama administration limited the scope of those who qualified for insurance premium subsidies to individuals whose employer did not provide “affordable” insurance plans. The means for measuring this threshold of “affordable” insurance was a premium less than 9.5% of household income, but that applied only to the individual employee, not his or her family. That limitation was meant to manipulate the CBO scoring for the estimated cost of the massive new spending program.

From the very beginning of ObamaCare, Democrats wanted to “fix” this so-called “family glitch” in the law, but repeated attempts in Congress to change the law over the last 12 years have proven unsuccessful.

Naturally, Comrade Biden says he’s going to “fix” this “glitch,” as he wants to expand ObamaCare’s coverage and will rewrite the law to do so. It’s a blatant end run around Congress. Only Congress has the power to write and rewrite laws, and yet here Biden is dubiously claiming he has the authority that the Constitution never granted.

Like he’s done with student loan forgiveness, Biden is acting without Congress to enact the Democrats’ preferred policy agenda, irrespective of the limits built into our governmental system. The great irony is that Democrats will defend this undemocratic and unconstitutional action as necessary to save democracy or some such. Meanwhile, Americans already strapped by Bidenflation will see more of their liberty erode at taxpayers’ expense.
