Sneaky Roy Cooper tries to recreate emergency powers by regulation | Eastern NC Now

headed for legislative showdown

ENCNow

During the Covid period, Roy Cooper grossly abused NC's emergency powers statutes to seize almost dictatorial control.  Many Republican sheriffs recognized that Cooper was exceeding his powers and refused to enforce his executive orders.

As a result, bills to rein in the governor's emergency powers and to clearly define what he could and could not do were introduced including several by Rep. Keith Kidwell (R-Beaufort).  To get around Cooper's vero, the language from these bills was included as special provisions in the last budget which Cooper signed, making them law.

Sneaky Roy Cooper is now trying to recreate those draconian emergency powers by the backdoor by using the administrative rulemaking process.  This clearly goes against both the Constitution and what is now statutory law.  His Department of Administration has submitted those new rules for approval by the NC Rules Review Commission.

Kidwell is now working to generate enough letters to the Rules Review Commission to force a review by the General Assembly, which would have the power to disallow those rules, and delay their effective date until the legislature has a chance to do that.

This is the same type of arrogant, power-obsessed government that is typicacl of Democrats, and is the REAL threat to our democracy.  Democrats are all about the Administrative State, and that is pure fascism.

I am in favor of forcing a review by the General assembly to limit Governor Roy Cooper from using any emergency powers at any time for any reason what so ever.

We need a stop to the Democrats abusive power that is illegal by our constitution. I also think that governor of North Carolina needs to be impeached if he's breaking the rules that are set forth by our constitution. Also propose an investigation.
