Rick Scott to challenge McConnell for GOP Senate leader today | Eastern NC Now

election failure, poor leadership, and poor image of McConnell are issues

ENCNow

Senator Rick Scott of Florida will challenge "China Mitch" McConnell for Senate Minority Leader today.  Efforts to wait until after the Georgia runoff for the vote were stymied unilaterally by the caucus chair, Senator Baroso, a McConnell lackey, but there may be an effort to override him.

Many senators are concerned about keeping McConnell due to his actions and inaction that hurt the Republican campaign for Senate control this year.  There are also concerns about his legislative assistance to Biden on some key liberal bills.  Another issue is McConnell creating a poor image for the GOP as one of its public faces.  A recent poll found that McConnell has an approval rating of only 7% with the American public and a disapproval rate of 81%, maing him by far the most unpopular politician in America.  This was undoubtedly a drag on the Republican Senate ticket this year and would be in 2024 as well.

Please call Senator-elect Budd's office at 202-225-4531 (this is his Washington congressional office) are urge him to support a delay in the vote and to support Rick Scott.

We will present that news as soon as our sources, and manpower allow.

I would have never voted for "Turtle" as NC's US Senator. The US Senate Republicans deserve what they wind up with.

Rick Scott was/is a viable alternative.

Horrible news. I heard on the radio that McConnell was reelected, and only ten Republican Senators voted against him. Assuming those who publicly said they would vote against him did, that leaves supposed conservative Ted Budd as one of those who stabbed conservatives in the back and voted for McConnell. Does anyone know if that is true?
