Authorities in China claim they spotted an unidentified flying object (UFO) off the coast of a port city, according to a state-run newspaper.

"Local maritime authorities in East China's Shandong Province announced on Sunday that they had spotted an unidentified flying object in waters near the coastal city of Rizhao in the province and were preparing to shoot it down, reminding fishermen to be safe via messages," said a tweet from the Global Times.

This report comes after U.S. and Canadian officials reported multiple UFO sightings over the past couple days.

The U.S. military shot down an unidentified object off the coast of Alaska on Friday. Officials described the UFO as being "cylindrical and silver-ish gray" flying at about 40,000 feet, according to ABC News.

Then on Saturday evening, a U.S. Air Force fighter jet shot down a UFO flying over Canada on the orders of President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Recovery operations followed, but there have not been any further details about what has been found as of press time.

North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) detected a "radar anomaly" on Saturday, leading to a temporary flight restriction over central Montana. However, NORAD said a fighter aircraft sent to investigate "did not identify any object to correlate" the radar hits, and the restriction was lifted.

Last weekend, the U.S. military shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon that flew at a high altitude across a wide swath of the United States. China claimed the vessel was a weather balloon that had been blown off course.

A salvage operation followed off the coast of South Carolina.
