Dem LA state rep switches, gives GOP supermajority | Eastern NC Now

State Representative Francis Thompson has represented a district in rural northeast Louisiana for fifty years as a Democrat, but he has had enough, announcing his switch of registration to Republican. Rep. Thompson told constituents that the views of todays Democrats at both the state and national level "no longer align with those values and principles which are part of my Christian life."  Thompson has worked with Republicans on policy issues in the past including the ultimately successful push to pass legislation to ban biological boys from girls sports.

Thompson's party switch gives Louisiana Republicans a supermajority in the State House.  They already have a supermajority in the state Senate.  That will allow them to override Democrat Governor Edwards' vetoes at will.
