Babylon Bee sues over California attack on freedom of speech | Eastern North Carolina Now

The Babylon Bee, a popular online satirical publication is taking the Peoples Republic of California to court over its suppression of freedom of speech.  The Bee's target is a California law passed last year, AB 587 that requires publications to report to the state Attorney General regular reports on "misinformation, disinformation, extremism, radicalization, and hate speech".  All of those terms are subjective and seen through a political prizm.  For a satirical publication like the Babylon Bee or The Onion, just about all of its content could be attacked under these terms for the very reason that it is satirical.

The term "hate speech" is a particularly odious term of Orwellian Newspeak used by totalitarians who hate FREE speech.

California is directly attacking America's First Amendment freedom of speech.

As George Orwell wrote "freedom of speech is your right to say what I don't want to hear".  It is under attack in both America and Europe, and it is good to see the Babylon Bee fighting back.  The biggest threat to democracy in America is the Democrats and the left's attack on freedom of speech.

Their lawsuit, however, is quite real, and there are other plaintiffs that have joined with them. Read either or both of the two articles that are linked in the subject article. I suppose you did not bother to do that or you would know better.

This "hate speech" malarky is nothing but a dastardly scheme to suppress free speech. Look at what has been done in France under that banner. A French Senator has been indicted for tweeting "immigration kills" after a brutal murder of a young French girl by an illegal alien. Two feminist leaders have been indicted for complaining that allowing biological men into womens restrooms and locker rooms was harmful to the safety and privacy of women. A woman was arrested for calling French President Macron "a piece of filth". Imposing "hate speech" laws is an assault on democracy.
