Progressive government moving to crush free speech in Ireland
Freedom of speech is under increasingly threat in Europe, and the progressive government of Ireland is moving to crush it in their country. If they succeed, Ireland will no longer be a free country. Elon Musk described the government's proposed "hate speech" law as "a massive attack against freedom of speech". If this bill becomes law, then "thought crime" in Ireland will carry up to five years in prison.
"Hate speech" is a term of Orwellian Newspeak used by totalitarian politicians who hate FREE speech. As used in this legislation, it is vague and general and can be applied to whatever the government wants, or conversely not applied to things or people that the government wants to hate. While versions of these laws have been passed in some other European countries, this one in Irelland is the most far reaching.
Interestingly it comes at a time when there have been mass demonstrations against the government importing migrants into the country.
As George Orwell wrote, "Freedom of speech is your right to way what I don't want to hear."

Like most on here, Big Bob is a big supporter of free speech. Just dont say hate speech isn't real. For example, Big Bob supports the rights of nazi pigs to assemble and make fools of themselves. But it's pure hate.

The examples below from France show how this "hate speech" scam is used by leftist politicians for censorship of political opponents. There is absolutely no legitimate excuse to arrest any of those people for their political expressions. You leftists are trying hard to do this to America. Only totalitarians who hate FREE speech use that Orwellian term "hate speech" and you are clearly one of them, Big Government Bob.

Hate speech is real and although you have the right to say these words, are you are not free from the consequences. Sure, one can take anything too far but never underestimate the power of your words on others. I think most of us don't go out of our way to hurt others but sometimes we are careless or stuck in the past. |

Lets look at how criminalizing speech is playing out in France (this is what the left wants to do in America):
3 citizens have been arrested for flipping the bird at President Macron, and are now facing a year in jail and a 15,000 euro fine. All have clean records prior to this political arrest. A French woman who is not politically involved and has no criminal record has been arrested for posting on social media that President Macron is "a piece of filth". A French Senator has been arrested and charged with "hate speech" for posting on social media "immigration kills" after an illegal immigrant brutally murdered a young French girl. Two French feminist leaders were arrested and charged with "hate speech" for posting that allowing biological men into womens restrooms was an invasion of womens privacy. And that is only in the past two months. None of those involve any of those people arrested doing anything violent. They are political expressions that were suppressed. It looks like Macron is trying to imitate Petain. |

Big Bob, your "straw man argument" regarding this platform's complete advocation for Free Speech is decidedly weak.
Eastern NC NOW moderates violent rhetoric, but not Free Speech, providing the speaker convinces us that they believe what they say to be true. These are our "house rules" that will remain in effect as long as this platform exists. |

Um, not all speech is protected....its always been this way. (see SCOTUS case law) If you don't believe me, start right here on this site. Use your words and threaten to hurt or kill people. You know, violence. Tell us all how you and your AR-15 are put people down. Start with the president. Go ahead. Its just speech. Personally, I know better. But go on, knock yourself out.

But it is not the only tool of the totalitarians who oppose free speech. Classfying things they disagree with as "disinformation" is another one. Hate speech is real. Most of it is protected. When it turns to violence directed at others then no, it loses the protection.

The far left is workinig to destroy free speech here in America, too. That was the purpose of their "disinformation" board. Our First Ameendment makes it harder to do than in Europe, and free speech is disappearing in Europe. The "hate speech" hoax is largely respponsible there.

Threats are threats, not "hate speech". Communicating threats was a crime here in North Carolina long before the far left invented the term "hate speech". Those clear examples of repression of legitimate political speech in France is what you get when the left puts in place their totalitarian "hate speech" laws.
