Parties on the right in Germany continue to surge in the polls, with the traditional conservative Chrstian Democrats with their even more conservative Bavarian sister party the Christian Social Union, running way out front, and the populist / nationalist anti-immigration Alternative fur Deutschland, passing the governing Social Democrats to move into second place and pushing the Social Democrats into third.

The latest poll, taken earlier this month by the major German polling firm Forsa for a German TV station, reflects trends that have been happening for months and have been showing up in other polls.

The poll shows that if the election were held today, the CDU/CSU would receive 29% of the vote, up from 24.1% in the last election.  The AfD would receive 19%, up from 10.3% in the last election.

The Social Democrats would receive 18%, down from 25.7% in the last election.  The Greens would receive 14%, down from 14.8%.  Their third coalition partner, the Free Democrats, traditionally much more conservative than those two parties would drop to 7% from the 11.3% they received in the last election.  The (far) Left Party would receive 4%, not enough to achieve representation in the Bundestag.
