after massive swing to the right in recent parliaementary election

ENCNow

After coalition negotiations following a massive swing to the right in the recent parliamentary election, Finland's most right wing government since World War II is set to take office next week.  Petteri Orpo, leader of the traditional conservative National Coalition Party will serve as Prime Minister and his party will hold eight seats in the cabinet, while the populist / nationalist anti-immigration Finns Party will hold seven seats, including the powerful Finance, Interior, and Justice ministries.  The smaller center-right Christian Democrats and the Swedish Peoples Party of Finland will each hold two cabinet seats.  The coalition will hold 108 seats in the 200 seat parliament

The government program that has been agreed upon includes cracking down on illegal immigration, making it tougher to be granted asylum,  making it tougher to get naturalized Finnish citizenship, major budget cuts, reducing government debt, building more nuclear power, and eliminating or reducing some of the environmental policies of the preceding administration such as emissions targets.

The National Coalition Party finished first in the parliamentary election, with the Finns Party a close second, and the outgoing Social Democrats third.

Neighboring Sweden currently has a government led by a traditional conservative party, which is supported by a major populist-nationalist anti-immigration party, and backed by smaller center-right parties.

Illegal immigration has driven Finland's swing to the right as citizens want to put a stop to the flow of illegal alien migrants. The same triggered the big swing to the right in the Swedish election. It is also triggering the big swing to the right in German, Spanish, and French polls and in the last Italian election. A recent poll in France showed that Marine LePen of the anti-immigration National Rally would defeat President Macron by ten percentage points if the election were held today.
