UK Brexit leader Farage de-banked over politics - can it happen here in US? | Eastern NC Now

There have been scattered reports of "de-banking" of people or companies over political views in the US, but it is getting major attention in the UK after Brexit leader Nigel Farage, now a TV pundit for GBNews, and who recently won the UK's top broadcast award, announced that his bank has closed his account due to his political views.   The bank involved is Coutts, a 300 year old institution that is part of the major NatWest group of banks.  They are cancelling Farage over their view that he is not "inclusive" enough.

This has caused a huge blowback, with influential members of the British parliament threatening to hold a review of NatWest's banking license.  Farage says he is all-in to go to war for free speech of all banking customers, and declared "if they can cancel me, they can cancel you".

The North Carolina General Assembly just overrode a Roy Cooper veto of legislation to stop ESG but it is not certain if it will protect our citizens from this type of "woke" tyranny.

UPDATE:  The UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer has promised emergency legislation within days to prevent banks from closing accounts due to the political beliefs of the account holders, and to revoke banking licenses of repeat offending banks.  The UK's powerful Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, has condemned "the sinister nature of much of the diversity, equity, and inclusion industry."
